Tasmania's vibrant wine and spirits scene holds a special place in my heart. As a chilled-out aficionado of tasty tipples, I have been fortunate enough to explore the remarkable establishments that make this region a premier destination for wine and spirits enthusiasts. Let me share with you my most recent experiences of two exceptional locations: Bangor Vineyard Shed & Spring Bay Distillery.

First on my list is Bangor Vineyard, a hidden gem nestled in the picturesque seaside township of Dunalley. As I stepped onto the grounds, I was immediately captivated by the breathtaking views of Dunalley. The cool climate winemaking prowess of Tasmania truly shines through the premium wines produced by this small, family-owned winery. Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay are among the delightful offerings crafted from meticulously hand-tended vineyards. The dedication and passion that go into the winemaking process at Bangor Vineyard result in wines that beautifully showcase the unique terroir of Tasmania. I highly recommend visiting this enchanting destination, where you can indulge in wine tasting, purchase bottles, and even enjoy a delightful meal. One of my favourites is the Abel Tasmanian Pinot Noir that wone the James Halliday trophy back in 2019 at the Tasmanian Wine show.

Next, I set off on an adventure to Spring Bay Distillery, situated on Tasmania's pristine East Coast. This boutique establishment takes pride in its commitment to handcrafting premium spirits of unparalleled quality. Using premium Tasmanian barley and the finest East Coast Tasmanian rainwater, they create a single malt whisky that is truly exceptional. The distilling process is carried out with utmost care, and the selection of casks is done with precision, resulting in a whisky that embodies the essence of Tasmanian craftsmanship. Their Spring Bay Gin, a London Dry, is one of my favourites and was a Gold Medal recipient at the 2020 Australian Gin Awards. Open 11am to 3pm, Wednesday to Sunday, drop in for a sample, soak in the scenic views and say hi to Suzy & Bella, their friendly distillery dog.

Bangor Vineyard & Spring Bay Distillery each left a lasting impression on me, offering unique experiences that embody the spirit of Tasmania's wine and spirits scene. I was fortunate to have a designated driver to take me around so I could enjoy the wonderful venues and their produce. Both well worth a visit whether you're a wine lover, a whisky connoisseur, or simply a curious visitor.
