The Huon Valley is famous for its forests, farming and produce all surrounding the Huon River. Taking the rods down to the river after work and having a fish is a great way to unwind and relax (especially now with the weather warming up and daylight savings giving me more time on the river). The river hosts a range of different species including Trout, Salmon, Bream, White Bait and Pike. Many of these are delicious or just fun to catch and release.

Being 174km long, I have not yet found the best spot by the river but if you drive towards Franklin or Cygnet you will be spoilt for choice with a range of small jetties, boat ramps and river beds to choose from. Otherwise in Port Huon, Shipwrights Point is a great place to stop not only for a fish but to have a BBQ, take the dog walking or let the children loose in the playground and spacious oval area. If you visit at night you could even try your luck at fishing for squid. You can also squeeze in a visit to the Kermandie Hotel for a nice warm meal or refreshing drink after your day exploring (only 40 minutes south of Hobart).
