This is the kind of tip you're torn about sharing because you cherish the location so much. The Mersey Forest is a stunning area that might surprise you on the way to Cradle Mountain or Tamar Valley, just past Deloraine and Mole Creek, or you might hear about it from locals or friends.

Mole Creek is known for the renowned Truffle Farm Tasmania and the iconic Mole Creek Caves (a must-see!), as well as a quick stop for delicious honey ice cream at Melita Honey Farm. If you have more time to explore, don't miss the Alum Cliffs Walk, offering a breathtaking vista. Known as tulampanga in Aboriginal language, Alum Cliffs hold particular significance to Tasmanian Aboriginals due to the nearby ochre deposits. The trail suitable for most ages, is just a 40-minute walk, briefly climbing before winding through a forest and sharply ascending to cliffs 200 meters above the Mersey River, offering amazing views of the gorge and river.

From the Alum Cliffs, you can look out over the entire Mersey Forest and the Mersey River, leading to one of my favourite corners of Tasmania: the Mersey River Campground on Olivers Rd. This hidden gem, not easily found on maps, requires attentive driving towards Mount Roland to spot it. It's a small campground with 8 spots, 3 suitable for campervans and all ideal for tents. Sometimes you can fit 2 cars and 2 tents in one spot, though not all spots allow this. The facilities are basic, with only 1 dry bathroom, no tap water, and no mobile phone reception. However, almost all camping spots offer river views and access, making it a great spot for adventurous swimmers. When there are no fire restrictions, you can bring firewood for a cosy bonfire with marshmallows. It's truly a dreamy place. Remember to leave no trace, take all your trash with you, and enjoy the tranquillity.

To conclude your trip, you can continue driving towards the impressive Mount Roland or head to the stunning Cradle Mountain. Either way, you're in for a beautiful experience.
