There is something beautiful and unique when I travel to Richmond. What I have always been intrigued by is its unique history. I enjoy walking along the paths following the steps of those before us and I take a moment to imagine what life was like back during the 1800s.

I recall memories when I was child, about 7 or 8 years old, and remember visiting a place where there were all these little model homes and boats. It had been a while since I last visited (having lived overseas) and I had questioned myself before visiting Richmond again: “Was that ever real?”. To my surprise it was, and the memories of my childhood came flooding back.

Now that I am back in Tassie, whenever I have a free day, I tend to jump into the car and drive myself out that way, taking the road behind Risdon Vale, just to escape city life and spend the day admiring all on offer. I know down the track I’ll do the same with my children, stopping by at the famous lolly shop, the old Richmond Gaol and the historic bridge, hoping to create the same memories that my family once did with me.
