Despite the unparalleled beauty of the Three Capes Track, with the highest dolerite cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere, their dramatic yet breathtaking views over a great variety of landscapes and striking sections of coastlines, my personal favourite day walk on the Tasman Peninsula is the track to Crescent Bay Beach.

In Tasmania I’m what they call a blow-in. Unless you are indigenous or have a Tasmanian family heritage stretching back to the convicts or early settlers then you too are a blow-in!

When I first moved to nipaluna/Hobart last year one of the many amazing things that struck me was the ever-present majesty of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. At 1271 metres above sea level it looms over our city from seemingly every angle. Interestingly it only comes in as the 51st highest peak in Tasmania but is the highest in the Wellington Range. The views from the Pinnacle over the Greater Hobart area, Derwent estuary and Bruny Island, especially on a fine day, are spectacular. Criss-crossed by many walking tracks and fire trails suitable for riders, joggers and walkers, the mountain is great place to explore all year round. There are also options for animal lovers too with 75kms of fire trails which can be accessed for horse riding and a selection of dog friendly tracks.

One of the common questions we receive at the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre from our visitors is “What are the must-do things in Hobart?” My answer to visitors is quite straight forward and once I gauge that history is important to them, I suggest the Cascades Female Factory Historic Site.

One of my favourite places to visit in lutruwita/Tasmania is the Douglas Apsley National Park. Located on the East Coast, this national park is a real gem! Just a short ten-minute walk from the car park, you will find the very popular Apsley River Waterhole. This spot is extremely picturesque and ideal for a quick yet refreshing swim. On a sunny day, pack a picnic and spend your time lounging around on the warm stone pebbles in the tranquility of this beautiful park.

Bruny Island is one of Tasmania’s southernmost accessible islands. Particularly during winter, the long stretches of rocky coastlines and beaches look amazing. You may have driven to Bruny Island before by yourself, however, today I would like to share with you how I enjoyed a full-day tour with Bruny Island Safaris.
