With the festival right around the corner, The Taste of Tasmania have announced their free entertainment program. And…spoilers, it’s jam-packed with Tassie talent!
Featuring 710 local Tasmanian artists and 225 activities and performances over seven incredible days, the program includes variety activities and performance styles suited to all ages.
Here’s what you can expect with the Taste of Tasmania’s free entertainment program:
The Lawns
Predominately focused towards family friendly entertainment this area takes over Castray Lawns and features two entertainment stages!
During the morning, community and family fun are key. Our line-up includes Don’t Mess with the Dummies, a dynamic hour of power that combines impressive stunts and slapstick comedy.
Educational and fun activities abound as community groups assemble to captivate young Festival-goers. Get involved with family games with the Tasmanian Junior Beekeepers, sit down with the Tassie Nannas and knit something special for refugees, or get your face painted by Face your Fantasy.
In the afternoon, the Festival vibe really kicks into gear! Every afternoon local community dance groups will teach you how to shake, shimmy and shuffle in a variety of styles, before a headline music act lights up the stage.
As the sun begins to set, families can settle in for a free twilight movie screening of family friendly classics! And while the families relax at the cinema, some adult fun will also take over The Lawn. Local drag legend Trey L'Trash will host riotous rounds of Drag Bingo, while funny man Rob Braslinand a showcase of comedians provide the chuckles.
The Atrium by Josef Chromy
The focus at The Atrium by Josef Chromy is centered on live music in a range of different styles from blues, jazz, funk, soul, classical and blue grass, intermixed with retro vinyl DJ sets. In the afternoons expect to enjoy the musical stylings of Billy Whitton & The Blues Angels or The Runaway Belles. And come evening get ready to dance along to the likes of Mauruci’s Cocktail Party.
The Marketplace
Here is where the community spirit comes alive! The Marketplace stage will welcome amazing Tasmanian circus and street performers throughout the day, along with a host of fun community events in the afternoon before local choir and vocal groups herald the day’s end and house bands help you party the night away.
Community shows include: The Great Tasmanian Art Battle, which sees five local artists battle it out live to create unique works of art, and North vs South, where Tasmania’s longstanding rivalry over who produces the best beer will finally be put to rest.
Roving & Pop-up Performance
Keep your eyes peeled for a host of roving and pop-up performance, including an epic saxophone flash mob and a special parade by contemporary dance group the Second Echo Weavers.
On two special evenings, guests to The Taste will also be treated to a night of opera, where well known Tasmanian soprano Emily Burke will serenade audiences on the waterfront from the Egeria boat sailing in the Derwent River.
The Taste of Tasmania is Australia’s biggest and longest running food and wine Festival. With stunning waterfront views, awe-inspiring performances, live music and local gourmet offerings The Taste is summer’s not-to-be-missed community celebration
